Shape of your Shadow | #NaPoWriMo2020 | Prompt 1
Prompt 1: Describe yourself in a poem
I'll start off with who I am
Will you oblige and tell me
If my name fits the same?
I'm not a morning person
But I cannot live without sunrises
Sometimes I love them, more than sunsets
And I love the moon, yet I don't greet it everyday
No don't blame me yet, I'm not lazy
I'm just not ready to be consumed by obsession
Any, kind of obsession
You ask me, jasmine or lavender
And I'm most likely to say butterscotch
Wait, don't judge me already
I'm sane, I promise, listen to me
Sometimes you tell people
What you want to say, rather than
What they want to hear, don't you?
Some days, I'm not even sure
If the day ends at dusk or dawn
Most days, I live more on promises
Than oxygen and H20
Oh, I didn't mean to stress you
I'll probably forgive you for everything
But only sometimes my own self
No, I won't wipe your tears when you cry
I will let you shed them
Please don't perceive me as cruel
Take my shoulder and take my hand
And take my time, I'm all ears
Don't tell me when you're done for you may
Not even remember you were crying anyway
You'll never know me
Not because I don't know myself enough
Since, I follow human evolution too ardently
I will always be evolving, growing
Sometimes to fit in, maybe others to stand out
Oh no don't abandon me if I get too difficult
Please never let me lose my roots
If you ever find yourself struck by gloom
Unable to move, unable to scream
Please do me a favour, gather all your heart's strength
And shhh, listen, you're perfectly imperfect
Go get those shining sparkling sunrays on your face
And look back, look down, I'll be there
In the shape of your shadow, love, Aakriti.
